Arcane Abode

Arrival

After what seems like hours of non-stop driving, you've finally made it to your destination. Your great-uncle Julius (you didn't even know you had a great-uncle) had called you to his house, saying you had to be there by the end of the month. You get out of your car to walk up to the front door, and find a note taped to it: "If you are reading this note, that means that I've passed away. This house and everything in it are now yours do with as you please. This place is special, moreso than any other house in the world. Use it wisely. From, your Great-Uncle Julius. P.S. There are instructions inside. Keep an eye out for them.) There's a key attached to the bottom; when you grab it, it pricks your finger. You start to wipe the blood off the key, only to find that the key had somehow absorbed it! The door opens without you even touching it, and when you walk inside, you find a blank white space far bigger than the house itself. There is only a book sitting atop a podium.

Extreme Home Renovation (Magic Edition)

The first page of the book reads: "So you know by now that this house is magical. Whenever you're done gasping in awe and drooling, you can start remaking this home as you see fit. Below is a list of the changes you can make to your new home. Let's start with the style. Don't worry about the size - it doesn't matter after all. You have some currency here, which I call Feature Points, which you can spend to change things around."

Minimalist

Cost: 0 Feature Points

"Ugh, minimalism. It's the most boring out of all the options, but it's the easiest to recreate so it won't cost you anything. Get used to living in a boring white block for the rest of your life."

Modern

Cost: 0 Feature Points

"This one is a bit of an improvement, but some argue otherwise. Modern is still quite bland, but it's at least got a little more style to it. It's still quite easy to replicate, so this choice won't cost you anything either."

Suburban

Cost: 1 Feature Points

"Now we're getting somewhere. Suburban may not be extravagant or striking, but it gets the job done and it has its own charm. This one will actually require some points to recreate."

Rustic

Cost: 1 Feature Points

"If you like the idea of roughing it but not the idea of being outside, then the Rustic style is the one for you! It's rugged and bespoke, and more complex than it would initially have you believe."

Fantasy

Cost: 2 Feature Points

"Looking for something more whimsical? It seems only fitting to choose the Fantasy style, then. It's enchanting and adorable, and it'll satisfy your inner Tolkien fan."

Sci-fi

Cost: 2 Feature Points

"Of, course there is something available in the opposite direction. The Sci-fi style will let you live out your wildest dreams of being in Star Trek, as well as being stylish."

Antique

Cost: 3 Feature Points

"Now this one is quite exciting. While the picture may say Victorian Gothic, the Antique style will allow you to recreate any architectural style from before the 20th century! With all the modern-day conveniences included, of course."

Ethnic

Cost: 3 Feature Points

"As vague as it might sound, the Ethnic style has some wide variety behind it - this one will recreate any architectural style from any culture in the world! Useful for if you want to have a vacation in Greece or Mexico without leaving home."

Other

Cost: 5 Feature Points

"Not satisfied with any of the other options? Well this one will cover anything that isn't included in the above options. A spaceship, a castle, a giant truck; the sky's the limit with this one. Just keep in mind that just because the house looks like a spaceship, does not mean that it is an actual functioning spaceship."

House Builder

"Now for the inside of the house. You'll notice there are some options that are already selected as these are considered staples for a house to have. You can however spend some points to upgrade these rooms; keep in mind that those will take away from your features not your room points."

Living Room

Cost: 0 Room Points

"A basic living room. Has a couch, coffee table, and a basic entertainment center."

Primary Bedroom

Cost: 0 Room Points

"Also known as the master suite. Has a bed, dresser, and a closet."

Primary Bathroom

Cost: 0 Room Points

"A basic bathroom. Has a toilet, bathtub, standing shower, and a double sink."

Kitchen

Cost: 0 Room Points

"A basic kitchen. Comes with a stove, oven, sink, and refrigerator."

Entertainment - Upgrade

Cost: 3 Feature Points

Required: Living Room

"This upgrade will upgrade the entertainment center to include a top-of-the-line TV, a deluxe sound system, and access to all streamable media, even the ones that are no longer available to the public! I don't see how anyone could live without this one.

Sleeping - Upgrade

Cost: 3 Feature Points

Required: Primary Bedroom

"This upgrade will make your bedroom into a dreamer's paradise. The covers, pillows, and mattress will always be exactly to your liking, and you can have background noises like waves on a shore or a distant storm playing to add to the experience. You can even toggle lucid dreaming on and off; you are guaranteed to have a good night's sleep with this!"

Hygiene - Upgrade

Cost: 3 Feature Points

Required: Primary Bathroom

"This upgrade will provide you with all of the best hygiene products ever made, magically or otherwise. The bathroom will automatically restock whenever you're running out, too. With this, you'll never have to worry about bad hair days or BO ever again!"

Cooking - Upgrade

Cost: 3 Feature Points

Required: Kitchen

"This upgrade turns your kitchen into a utopia for chefs, new and old. With this every appliance a cook could ever need or want will be made available to you. The kitchen will even provide you with an infinite cookbook with every recipe in the world, even secret ones - all you need to do is think of what to cook. Just keep in mind that you'll still be on the hook to provide the ingredients for all of this."

Perks

"Some additional perks for the house itself. Some of them are basic features that you could buy with actual money and others are features that you could only get with magic."

Genius Loci

Cost: 3 Feature Points

"The house usually sets itself up based on whatever arrangement makes the most sense, but with this perk you can now rearrange the inside of the house however you want. You don't even have to obey the laws of physics - you can teleport rooms directly to you whenever you want! Warning: may cause confusion and vertigo."

Living House

Cost: 5 Feature Points

"The house in its current state is no more intelligent than a car or a tablet. It's capable of doing many things but not without your input. With this, your house will be granted a soul of its own, essentially like a true AI; it can talk, play games, even manifest a body of sorts through magic. Of course, it will basically be like a newborn so its personality will be affected by the way you treat it."

Self-Sufficient

Cost: 3 Feature Points

"Even if this house is magic, it still gets things like electricity and water from the city. With this perk, you would never need to worry about that anymore; whether by solar panel or wind turbine, well or glacier, all your utilities will now come free of charge!"

Cleaning Crew

Cost: 2 Feature Points

"Now I know you probably hate having to spend hours scrubbing every inch of the house, just for it to get dirty again. I consider this perk a requirement; with it, the house will handle the cleaning all on its own. Even areas that you probably never think to clean, like the tops of cabinets or window tracks, will shine like brand new."

Heart of the House

Cost: 5 Room Points

Cost: 10 Feature Points

"There is a 'core' of sort to the house that makes it function the way it does. With this perk, that Core becomes physical and exposes all the inner workings of the house. You essentially gain access to its source code, and can now experiment with the house's capabilities; you may even discover things that I never did."

Drawbacks

"These are features that may decrease your quality of life. They may give you extra points to spend, but they come with a cost. Choose wisely; once you select a drawback you won't be able to remove it without giving something else up in return."

No Pest Control

Gain: 3 points

"Normally the house won't allow anything or anyone in without your say-so. If you pick this you'll have to handle that on your own; be prepared to deal with roaches, termites, rats, and maybe even bears on your back porch. At least you won't have to worry about thieves."

Hostile Architecture

Gain: 10 Feature Points

Gain: 5 Room Points

Required: Living House choice

"While having a living house may not be a negative, this will guarantee it as your house will now become hostile towards you. It won't kill you - doing that would deactivate the house - but you may find that there are things worse than death. Prepare to deal with labyrinthine corridors, terrifying noises at all hours, and everything actively working to make your life miserable."

Noisy Neighbors

Gain: 0 points

"Right now the house is in a clearing in the woods and the nearest neighbor is miles away. If you pick this, a huge family will build a house right next door and make noise 24/7. Attempts to get them to quiet down will fail, they won't listen to noise ordinances and if you confront them they may get louder out of spite. You may want to invest in a good pair of headphones."

Heist Target

Gain: 5 points

Gain: 3 points

"Nobody knows about this house but me and you, and I'm dead. If you take this perk, someone, somehow will find out about the house, and they will tell others. Since you chose to make the Core physical, this means that you will have people try to get it for themselves, and it will be entirely up to you to protect it."

Your New Life

"Now that you've got your house all set up, there's just one more thing left - what are you going to do with all this power?"

Stay Here

"If you stay here, you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor in your life, maybe even find others like you. You could go get that degree you've always wanted, find love, maybe even become rich and famous. This world is now your oyster. Keep in mind there are those that may covet your new power for themselves."

Set Off

"If you decide to leave, you could go anywhere you want. You don't even have to stay in this world! You could go see your favorite characters, journey across vast open landscapes, and even explore places never explored before, all from the comfort of your home. But you'll never be able to come back to this world, at least not until you find a workaround."
